CLINICAL OBSERVATION ON CRYPTORCHIDISM

Abstract
|
|
|
A clinical observation was made on 72 patients of cryptorchidism who had been admitted to the Department of Urology, Chonnam University Medical School during the 61 years period from January 1978 to June 1984.
The following results were obtained:
1. The age distribution varies from 3 to 24 years with an average of 9.6 years and 32 patients were between 6 and 10 years old.
2. There were 50 patients of unilateral cryptorchidism, of which 28 were on the left and bilateral cryptorchidism were observed in 22 patients.
3. Of the 94 testes, 47 were located in the prepubic region, 43 in the inguinal canal and 4 in the abdomen.
4. Hormonal therapy was done on 8 patients but there were no response.
5. On the histopathologic findings of testicular biopsies, below the age of 5, there were numerous spermatogonia, no degenerative changes of seminiferous tubule and basement membrane, up to the age of 5, there were spermatogonia ocassionally, atrophic findings of seminiferous tubule, thickening of basement membrane.
6. Orchiopexy was performed on 92 testes and orchiectomy on 2 testes.
